Underwater Hull Inspection

Simplifying Fleet Inspection and Control

With the ECOsubsea Detector-tool and transparent reporting, you can track hull condition over time, determine ideal cleaning frequency, and select the optimal biofouling management practice. Our standardized procedure ensures robust and comparable results — inspections can be performed day or night, regardless of weather, and without disrupting port operations.

Over 10 years, ECOsubsea has developed and fine-tuned a biofouling detection tool and image analysis methodology, Detector, that measures and quantifies biofouling on the vessel’s vertical sides. An algorithm generates a standardized fouling score (1–10), enabling easy comparison of biofouling, coating, and hull condition across fleets while freeing up internal analytical resources.

The inspections deliver real measurements for better decision-making. This low-cost solution is easy to implement and helps create cost-saving biofouling strategies that reduce fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions.

Inspection process:

  • Agent boards vessel (approx. 1 hour routine).

  • Device lowered at six vertical points – FRW, MID, AFT on port and starboard side.

  • Summary report sent within 24 hours.
